Tips to organize your house, after the lock-down

Ok, some of us used the extra time at home to organize everything and do a good clean up. Some of us (ehm, me included) didn't. When everything falls apart, why care about the clothes and the items that are piling on the furniture around you?

Well now the lock-down belong to the past (hopefully for a long time) so let's roll up our sleeves and tidy up that mess around us. Here are some tips to help you de-clutter, more easily.

To keep or not to keep

Let's start from the basics. You don't need everything in your room/house, just admit it! Some items may have a sentimental value, but come on... Those CD to remind you the first mix up of songs you did when you were 12? Nope. So take two big boxes, one for the things you will donate and the other for the things you'll throw away. Don't keep things that are broken or have no use anymore. It's far more convenient to hold on your memories, than on broken items.

The storage

Now that you got rid of many things (let's hope you did) time to put in the right place, everything that's left. Remember that nice furniture with lots of shelves you wanted to buy? Nope? Then time to find one. Shelves are not only useful when it comes to storing items, but they can also be used to decorate a room. Pick  your own, that matches your style and use it to store the things you use the most. And if you happen to have an old cupboard or other old storage furniture, don't throw it away. Move it to your attic or your storeroom to keep all the other stuff, that you use rarely, but still didn't throw away.

Store and decorate

And when everything is nicely stored, use MORE storage items, in order to store and decorate at the same time. Fancy boxes, colorful baskets, anything that can be used as a decoration too, so that you can de-clutter any surface in your house, even more. And now that we talk about it, why not use those storage stools that have triple use: as decoration, seating and storage.

Protect your newly organised place

Now that everything's in order, let's keep it this way. Find what -or who- is causing most of the clutter. It could be your bad habits, your artist friend that keeps gifting you their DIY projects or a very sloppy roommate. Find the cause of this mess and don't hesitate to deal with it, so that everything will stay as tidy as possible.

Plan the next de-cluttering

One last tip. It needs work to keep a place nice and tidy, and that means you need to find not only the will to de-clutter, but also the time to do it. Find the perfect time-slot in your weekly schedule and try to stay committed. When it's that time of the week to clean and tidy, just do it, and don t find excuses to delay it!
