Something we all agree on is that modern time fashion has a bad impact on environment. Especially fast fashion, that manufactures new products faster than it recycles them. Though fashion is essential in the way that provides a form of self expression, caring for the planet we live on is way more important. But what if there is a gold balance between those two? Bellow I’ll be listing a few tips that will help you enjoy styling, in a more environmental friendly way.
Keep your clothes in their best condition
I will start by stating the obvious. When clothes are worn out we buy new ones. But it takes a huge amount of water to create a simple piece of clothing and that is a huge NO for our planet. To limit those bad effects one thing we can do is to try and keep our clothes in good condition for as long as possible. We can wash them inside out, and if a clothing is delicate, we can avoid the washing machine at all, and hand wash them. To go one step further try not to wash that often, unless a clothe is really dirty. The alternative to this is to refresh them by hanging them outside in the clear air.
Limit the use of unnecessary electricity
When it comes to clothing not everything has to be ironed. Denim and bodycon dresses are some of the examples that prove that there are items that can be spared the ironing. Also why use the tumble dryer, when one can hang them dry? And as I mentioned in the previous tip, we don't have to use a washing machine everyday, when we can simply refresh our clothes outside.
Wash with eco-method
Ok, sometimes we HAVE to wash our clothes or our body will become an ecosystem itself, where lice and flies will thrive... Still, when using the washing machine, three simple rules should apply. a. The washing mashing should be filled with as many clothes as possible, but mind this! Try not to press inside TOO many clothes, or else they may come out dirty again. b. Wash in lower water temperature, it helps both your clothes and the environment b. Use eco- friendly detergents
Buy and sell second hand
Let's get creative. We don't need lots of clothes to have a personal style. Let our imagination work with what we already have and create outfits with a few favorite items. But if one feels bored or uninterested, they should give a second-hand shop a visit. There one can find small treasures, and even sell their own clothes. It's something celebrities do too, and if someone is a Kardashian fan, they could buy their old clothes and recreate their favorite looks: Keeping up with the Wardrobashians (sorry, I will see myself out)
Buy consiously
Anyone has their favorite brand, me included. Do you, dear reader, have your personal preferences when it comes to fashion brands? Are they eco-friendly? Do they use recycled fabrics or do they treat their workers ethically? Sites like goodonyou.eco help you find ethical brands, so you can buy from companies that care about the ecosystem, as much as they care about your style!
